Khaya Mthethwa born and raised in Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal to Pastors Themba and Lulu Mthethwa who are founders of Umlazi Oasis Fellowship Centre. This is where it all began for Khaya as he was the music director. Khaya holds a diploma in Project management - Business management and is currently studying Theology. He is also a motivational speaker, a life coach and represents different brands to reach out to people across the continent at large. Khaya is passionate about the youth of this country having started his own foundation called The Khaya Mthethwa Arts foundation which serves to speak into young people's lives and inspire them to build careers and lives that are full of self-respect, and purpose driven goals.
Khaya Mthethwa is known to us now as a South African singer-songwriter, composer, musician, arranger and a multi skilled instrumentalist. He has performed alongside renowned musicians like Kirk Franklin, Byron Cage, Miguel, Mthunzi Namba, Ntokozo Mbambo, VaShawn Mitchell and Israel Houghton, to mention a few. He was also an active member of Joyous Celebration from 2009 In 2012 Khaya entered Idols Season 8, a well - known music competition with the intention of tapping into other genres to enhance his musical abilities. He went on to win the Idols competition becoming the 1st black South African to do so with an amazing 2.5 million of the 3 million votes cast throughout the show. The fruits of his hard work have been visible amongst others his album titled "For You", which was released on the 22nd of November 2012 went Gold.
Khaya Mthethwa released his 2nd debut album titled "The Uprising" which is setting the gospel music scene alight. He has created an eclectic sound that goes beyond boundaries, genres and above all the project has allowed him to do what he does best. "The Uprising" has put him on Centre stage as he went the unconventional route with his recent partnerships that have set him as a trailblazer amongst his peers in the music industry. Khaya Mthethwa partnered with Universal Music and Boxer Stores on a deal that got the album distributed around the country. The album earned a double Platinum status in just over a month of its release. This breaks and sets new records in the South African music industry. We can only anticipate greater works to come from this young man as he proves that nothing is impossible, having a vision, hard work and passionately loving what one does.
